This year we are celebrating ‘World Sleep Day’ on 16th March 2018. One would feel with so many bigger problems in life what is the point of celebrating world sleep day. When everyone is running the race in which sleep deprivation is only way to be. So few have the luxury in today’s day and age to sleep more than 5-6 hours. But I cannot emphasise enough how important it is for your total well being to have 7 hours of relaxed sleep. Your body and mind needs these hours to replenish and work effectively.
If one feels physical activity is important for your total well being then relaxing is as important for the same. Through the World Sleep Day the World Sleep Society raises awareness of sleep disorders and their better understanding and preventability, and to reduce the burden of sleep problems on society that constitute a global epidemic and threatens health and quality of life for as much as 45% of the world’s population.

Best Sleeping Position and why it is important
The Indian Vastu Shastra and Chinese Feng shui systems describe favorable and unfavorable geographical directions (north, south, east, west) for sleeping. Vastu Shastra suggests not to sleep towards North for people living in Northern hemisphere and not towards South in case of Southern Hemisphere. Blog by Sadhguru (Isha Foundation) quotes, “East is the best direction. North-east is okay. West is alright. South, if you must. North, no. This is true as long as you are in the northern hemisphere – sleeping with your head towards any side except north is okay. In the southern hemisphere, don’t put your head to the south.”
I personally have seen in my experience that sleeping in any other direction is good just one needs to avoid putting the feet in south when in northern hemisphere and opposite in southern hemisphere. As it causes a lot of health issues and mental stress. Now even scientist are saying the same thing. One needs to sleep in alignment with the earth’s magnetic field to have a good health. Not doing so causes issues with the blood flow which in turn gives many ailments. It is best to avoid sleeping in these position. So on this day lets pledge to sleep well sleep sound and sleep FULL.
